hola dudes

every part of the U.S, or the world for that matter, is known for their own originated style of music. Houston (my city :D ) is known for its "screw music" which sort of blew up and got introduced to the rest of the world around 03'ish. which was pretty weird to us because people started stealing our trend like some fad when we've been listening to it way back when we were in booster seats . Some people still don't understand it, but if you didn't grow up to it like we did you probably just won't get it.

ANYhoo

what is your state known for? everywhere I go I'm always picking up new kool tunes to jam to, like when i went up to Baltimore and discovered "go-go" music. this is your time to rep your city, and share a little piece of where you grew up.

My town is known for its swamp pop for the most part. But an hour away weve got New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz, blues (and R&B I think) which spread across the world a long time ago. I just hope swamp pop never gets popular. Its bad enough I have to hear it around here. I dont want anyone else to suffer.

Known for pretty much everything down here. I mean there's always people here who are doing different stuff with music (Teh Boiler Room, Boomerz). Not to mention the gaggle of retirees. Haha. Stupid Sunshine State.

Well, I'm not sure about music styles, I don't think we have any....

But I'm pretty sure Chicago is where Juking started, and I know we've got footwork.
Even though those are dances, atleast they are music related... right?

lol..dude...for some reason i swear i thought you typed "dumpster pop", either way that doesn't even sound appealing. sounds like something i'd see in a paris hilton video....or shall i say ON paris hilton. *waits for applaus*

ANYhoo

yeh, i'm more of two-step kinda guy. that fancy footwork stuff just frustrates me....you know how long it took for me to learn the heel-toe!? then when that spongebob dance came out i was like "f'ck....THAT!!". it was like 12too many moves for me, thank gwaud for the dougie and superman. when those came out i was like "praise the lord...something I can do without sweating everywhere". Can't keep memorizing every new hot dance move that comes out, have more important things to do with my time. the dougie is a simple 3step move that anyone can do, you put your own creative spin on it and can be learned instantly. well...let me not say instantly, I forget that rhythm isn't something everyone was fortunate to be blessed with.

sometimes i forget everyones not too savi on the urban culture. I just assume you know what I'm talking about as if its common knowledge, heres the spongebob dance. and if you don't know the Dougie, even i can't help you.

Around where i live is alot of jazz and blues (New Orleans down the road, well, 45 minutes) But closer around my city is alot of mainstream, metal, and a mix of alternative. I dunno, ppl are real big on the shows down here, you'd expect country, but all the bands are just *grereaeoriendlkfneoinefoogheoi!!!!!!!!* ((don't ask.))

Wow, I really, just looked back at this, and there really aren't any styles of music that came out of Chicago. Atleast not anything that is noticable.

I guess the only things we really have going for us is Fallout boy, Kanye, Lupe, and Treaty of Paris. (If anyone knows who treaty is.)

Charlotte is all about club music, so it's generally pop music. Anything that's on the radio or remixed recently will be at every club, every radio station, and on everyone's iPod. I don't mind pop music, but I prefer the pop rock or alternative rock. But regarding the city, and since my city is the "Queen City," it's all about what hot right now, though I don't like it.

thats generally what happens in every city. good bands are drowned out by the gargled noise of catchy gimmicky bands with dumbed down lyrics for a broader audience. i blame radio disc jockeys for simply playing what gets them ratings instead of more local mc's/bands. their letting our music die....and for what? cuz their ratings stink!? in the words of nas, "if music should die before I wake, I put an extended clip inside of my AK. roll up every station murder the DJ".

well...he said "hip-hop", but i'm a musical mutt who loves all genres. so that means that EVERY dj has a reason to watch their back

There's only one station that I can find that will play local bands, and it's on the late nights of Sunday, when nobody's awake to hear it because they're heading off to school or work the next morning. I like listening to the old music, too, though. Like the Ramones or the Doors, but there's still only one station that I can find that would play that kind of music.
