Chapter 2: The War of Minds
Chaos reached the building in no time, once he did he stepped over several trip wires and walked up to the top floor. Now this building was not as tall as the other, which was 50 stories, but this was tall it had 40 stories. Once he reached the top there was the same desk couch and paperwork. He smiled when he saw this. “I am smarter then you people give me credit for,” he said to the empty room then looked out the window into the city. “A god can’t afford to lose that easily.” he said calmly and naturally.
Kane turned to a phone in the room, he then picked it up and called the receptionist of the building. “I want a list of every abandon building in the city.” he said coldly to her.
“Yes right away.” she said shakily. She then hung up the phone and within thirty minutes she came in with a folder. “This is the all we have on buildings in that area.” she said to him handing him the folder.
“Thank you.” Kane said as he stared at her with his icy blue eyes. It was if he was staring through her peering into her soul, finding out her inner most thoughts. “Do you think what chaos is doing is right?” He asked her.
“Well I am not sure if passing judgment that quickly is right but the idea...” She was cut off by Kane before she could finish what she was saying.
“Let’s get this straight, what this person Chaos is doing is wrong. It is not right to pass judgment on those that have not been tried by our justice system. What he is doing is murder and nothing more. He is not making this world a better place, he is just making criminals more careful, and that my dear is not good.” he said to her in a calm cold manner that in forced his idea. She nodded and left the room. Kane sighed and sat down on his chair. Then after twenty minutes of thinking he stood up, grabbed the folder and walked out.
Just as he left the building the general walked up. “Were are you going?” he asked “we haven’t caught this lunatic yet.” he said with a bit of anger in his voice.
Kane turned his head to look at the general. As his eyes made contact with the generals, then general stumbled back a bit. “I am going home to come up with a strategy to catching this guy.” Kane said holding up the manila folder. The general nodded and Kane walked home. He preferred walking to driving. The outside cleared his head and allowed him to think clearly. Kane made it home and walked in. He set the folder on the table and walked into his kitchen. He grabbed a glass and a bottle of wine. He walked back out to were he set the folder down and sat in the seat right there. He poured himself a glass of wine and began to drink. He read over the folder for several hours, and went through more then half the bottle of wine. He then closed the folder and went to sleep.
“Until tomorrow mystery man.” Chaos said as he sat on his couch “I know there is a master mind behind this because the police are to stupid to do this alone.” he said to himself as he drifted off to sleep.
The next morning Kane woke up. He got took a shower then got dressed, in what looked like the same white cloths from yesterday. He then ate breakfast and brushed his teeth. He grabbed the folder before he walked out the door. Once outside he tucked the folder under his arm as both hands went into his pockets. He then walked the opposite direction to work. Instead of going to the office he walked into a coffee shop and sat down at a computer they had, and began to work on something.
Chaos woke up and walked to the window to look out upon his city. He breathed in the morning air. “Time to go to work.” he said as he walked to a bathroom that looked rather clean for an abandoned building. He turned on the water, and surprisingly the water began to flow. It was clean water none the less. He washed his face then brushed his teeth. It was obvious he had put a lot of work into this before hand. This was all on the top floor so no one could see it. He then by passed the water supply and got clean water into all his buildings. After he washed up he walked to the window his eyes glinted with a hint of red as he vanished. He reappeared in a place with no one around. He then walked into a crowded street. He walked for quite sometime, in the morning no one seemed to notice the other people around them. He walked to another building that had little to no people in it. “Time to find out who it is that is the master mind.” He said as he slid gloves over his hand as he sat down on the computer. He then began to type furiously on the keyboard.
Kane’s eyes then become wide as he was working. He quickly pulled out a cell phone and dialed Head quarters number. “We are being hacked, track down the hacker then shut the network down.” he said calmly. “It is you Chaos isn’t it?” he asked to what looked like the computer.
“Yes” the person over the phone said to the first part not hearing the question. After about ten minutes of waiting the person came back on the phone. “He is in a small internet café. On the other side of town, we sent a team right away.”
“Alright close the network on my count.” Kane said as he printed what he was doing. “ Here we go, three, two, one, now.” He said as the screen froze, then closed out. “What were you looking for?” Kane asked himself as he looked at the computer. “Could it be that you already now we have team looking for you?” he asked once more.
Chaos’s screen froze. He looked at it his eyes now red. “To late, sorry Kane but I already got the information I needed.” He said as the computer screen went black. He then walked out and turned the corner. As soon as he did a few cars pulled up on the other side of the street. Chaos then vanished.
The police ran into the building and sealed it off. “Alright I am officer Gates. Everyone just remain calm while we search the place. Once we have what we need you will be sent free.” he said to the whole place. After about an hour of dusting for prints, checking the people in there, and looking for any DNA trail they could find, they turned up with nothing. Gates then called head quarters. “We got nothing this guy is like a damn ghost. He left nothing behind.” He said. To the people over the phone. He then hung up and turned to his men and the people in the building. “Alright you are all free to go sorry to have caused any trouble.” he said as him and his men left and went back to head quarters.
Kane tucked his print out in the folder then tucked it back under his arm and left the coffee shop. Just as he left his phone rang. “What did you find?” he asked calmly and naturally.
“Nothing they guy didn’t leave a single trace.” said the general’s voice from over the phone.
“Well what did he get?” Kane asked next. As he walked towards head quarters now.
“He knows about you, me and the team.” The general said. As he did Kane dropped his phone and stood in one spot motionless his eyes opened wide.”Kane you there? You alright?” the general asked as the phone lay on the ground.
Kane stood motion less, a million thoughts running through his head. “He already knows, but how we let nothing believe that there was team looking for him.” He thought. “Could he be that smart, could he possible know things like that with no proof. No that is impossible we must have slipped up. You win this round Chaos, but be aware I will try harder now.” Kane thought to himself as he picked up his phone. “I am fine, I will be there shortly.” Kane said to the general with tone that wouldn’t let anyone know he was shook up. He then hung up the phone and walked to head quarters. Once there he waved good morning to the people in the main room. He then walked down stairs into the meeting room he was in last night. He walked in to see, officer Gates and the general right up front then a few other people sitting in the room. He walked to his seat in the back. He then sat down, and but the folder in front of him. He then put his elbows on the table, crossed his ands together then rested his chin on his thumbs. His hands were covering his mouth and chin, he sat there until they were ready to listen. Once all eyes were on him he moved his left hand leaving his right in position, he opened up the folder and grabbed the papers on top, he then slid them into the middle of the table. HE then closed the folder and put his left hand back into position.
Officer Gates grabbed the papers and flipped through them. Once he was finished he gave them to the general and then passed it around the table. Once it had reached everyone and everyone read it, it was passed back to the general. He looked at it once more before speaking. “Are you crazy?” he asked Kane. “We can’t do this!”
Kane put both hands down and looked at the general. “This will flush him out. This is the price we have to pay to bring him down.” Kane said the rest of the room looked at one another they all nodded.
“Alright” The general said reluctantly “We will bring this plan into effect once night hits.” The general said as the room nodded in agreement.
Kane smiled as he looked at the folder of buildings. “I will get you this time” he said to himself. “No matter how smart you think you are you can’t beat me in this battle of wits.” He said to himself once more.
Chaos Arrived back at his new building on the edge of the city. “Now to set up for tonight.” Chaos said his eyes glowing red. “Let us have some fun Kane Novell.” He said with a slight smile. He walked over to his desk and began to write something down on a piece of paper, after about ten minutes he put down his pen and folded the piece of paper and put it in his pocket. He then sat and waited for night fall. “This is when the game starts.” Chaos said as the sun set. He vanished once more from his room on the top floor.
Kane and the rest of the people stood up once night hit. They all walked out in a group then spread out, all going different directions. They went to the middle of the city all coming from different directions and going into different stores.
Once they were gone the front door’s of head quarters flew open. The guards on duty saw for only a split second, a figure with red eyes, staring at them, then he vanished as they were knocked out. Chaos walked threw the building calmly with no emotion on his face. He walked down to the conference room he walked in calmly and placed the piece of paper right in the back were Kane sits. Before he walked out he noticed the plan to bring him out. He smiled at it then left. He then walked to the security room and knocked the guards out. He grabbed the security camera tape and walked out. He vanished once more.
Kane sat in a store right by the middle of the street. He watched as a car pulled up and a guy walked out and pulled a gun he then started shooting it. “Tonight is they night you all die!” He Yelled into the street.
Just then a man appeared behind him. The man was In such a position that nothing but his body outline could be seen. “No tonight no one in this place will die.” Chaos said. The man with the gun’s eyes went wide. “For you were not going to shoot anyone, officer, Innocent.” Chaos said as he vanished and the guy fell to the ground with relief.
People came running and they were going to take out the guy in the middle of the street. Every officer came running out and stopped them.” No this man wont cause any harm he is a police officer, we were trying to flush out Chaos.” officer gates said. Just as they did yells were heard from the distance.
“No, stay away I don’t want to die.” a man said as he pointed a gun at Chaos. He started shooting but chaos vanished and the bullets hit the wall in front of him.
Chaos was then behind him. “You should have thought about that before you shot your boss.” Chaos said the man turned to shot but Chaos had already moved behind him once more. “I deem you guilty, your live is no longer needed in this world.” Chaos then put his hand on the guys back and blood splattered on the wall as the guy fell with a hole in his stomach. Chaos then moved to the man laying on the floor bleeding. He picked him up and vanished. They both reappeared in front of a hospital. “Innocent” Chaos said to the man as he started to open up his eyes. To see red ones staring back at him. Chaos then set him on the ground and vanished. Seconds later doctors came running out the got the man on a stretcher, one doctor looked up to see chaos standing on the top of a building once more and then he vanished. They then rushed the man inside and treated him.
Seconds after Chaos left the police along with Kane arrived at the place were Chaos had just been. They ran in to see the man laying on the ground dead a gun in his hand then another pool of blood not far from there. Kane walked up to the man laying there he crouched down and looked at the hole in the mans stomach. “What exactly are you?” He asked, talking to himself. The hole in the stomach matched the other guys, it was clean hole almost burned in there by some force that was unnatural. Soon news reporters showed up and began to ask questions.
After on hour all the TV’s switched to a special report. “This is a news update on the man known as Chaos. Tonight he left a police officer that he knew was innocent left alive. He then went and killed a man that had just shot his boss, because he didn’t get a promotion. Chaos then rushed the Guy shot to the hospital, which saved his life. He is now in intensive care but he will live, his family is now thanking Chaos for saving his life.” The reporter said it then cut back to the normal programing. Chaos smiled as he saw this he then vanished and went back to his temporary home.
“Damn it, they are making him look like a hero!” the general yelled as he slammed his fist into the car window. Kane sat in the other seat not saying a word and he wouldn’t until they got back to head quarters. Once there they walked in but noticed that the guards weren’t were they were normally. The general then ran to the security room and walked in the see all the guards unconscious. He shook them until the woke. “What the hell happened?” He asked them.
“It was Chaos he broke in.” one of the guards said a bit groggy.
“God damn it!” the general yelled as he went to check the tapes but they were gone. “Shit he took the tapes.” he said a bit more calmly.
As this was going on Kane went back down to the conference room. He walked in then to his seat. He saw the piece of paper. It read, “To: Kane Novell, From: God” Kane got angry and threw the paper down. He then regained his calm and picked it up and opened it and began to read, it said, “I hope you are the one to read this Kane, as I am sure you know by now I am no ordinary human. I have the power of heaven and hell, I can see peoples souls with m eyes, I can then judge whether or not they deserve to live. I have many other powers but I will be giving you clues to those as our game progresses. Kane make no mistake I will win this battle of wits, as I am sure by now you know I am also much smarter then you gave me credit for. I hope that once I become god you will join me for I would hate to have to kill you. Let us enjoy ourselves while we can.” it then cut off. Kane grew furious and pounded his fist into the table. His hair became very out if place and when he looked up he looked very menacing. Hate could be seen his is icy blue eyes. “He was just Fucking with us!” Kane yelled as he pounded his fist once more. He then stood up straight, his eyes returning to normal as he ran his fingers through his hair putting it back in place. Once he regained his composer he said. “No Chaos, you make no mistake I will bring you down. No matter how long it takes.” He said to himself as he stood alone in the room. The whole building was in a panic. “You win this round Chaos, but I will win the game.” he said with a bit of a smile.
Chaos stood in the window of his new building. “I hope you enjoyed the letter Kane.” He said to himself. “You get a good nights sleep I want you at your best for this game.” he said with a bit of laughter in his voice. “Tomorrow is when things really start to heat up, I am going to shake your world.” Chaos said as he walked into the building and went to sleep.
